The Affair is a responsive WordPress theme built around editorial publishing rather than a general-purpose site framework. It targets creative blogs and magazines with a minimalist visual direction, considered typography, featured content areas, galleries and several ways to organise archives. Seven designed demos are included in the theme, giving publishers different starting points for the same core system.

Editorial presentation

The theme puts the article stream at the centre of the design. Featured posts and featured categories provide dedicated places for important stories, while featured posts can also appear on category pages. Category filters add another route through the archive, which is useful for magazines covering several subjects or recurring sections.

Presentation controls extend beyond the homepage. The Affair includes multiple page header types, several page layouts and additional content areas. Smart colours, Google Fonts and Instant Live Preview give administrators control over the visual treatment without requiring a separate design system. Built-in styles for WordPress galleries support image-led posts, and the theme is retina-ready with adaptive image sizes for different displays.

Finding the next story

Navigation is one of the stronger parts of the feature list. A mega-menu, multi-level menu, smart sticky navigation and a mobile slide-out menu with widgets cover different browsing contexts. Live search results help readers find content while they search, while related posts and a contributors page create additional routes through the publication.

Archive behaviour is also configurable. Homepage and archive pages support multiple layouts, and posts can use numbered pagination, Load More or infinite loading. Editors can exclude featured posts from the main archive, avoiding a repeated lead story when the reader reaches the regular stream. Those options suit a publication that needs to balance prominent editorial packages with a chronological feed.

Publishing tools

The Affair includes several features aimed at sites with more than one regular author. Guest authors and multi-author posts are supported, with Co-Authors Plus compatibility listed for shared bylines. Post reading time and a post views counter add context around individual articles, while paginated posts provide another way to divide longer pieces.

SEO by Yoast support, including breadcrumb styles, keeps the theme aligned with a common WordPress publishing setup. AMP support and RTL support broaden the range of sites it is intended to accommodate. These are integration and presentation features rather than replacements for a dedicated SEO or editorial workflow tool, but they reduce the amount of theme-specific styling a magazine needs to arrange.

The catch

The breadth of options brings a real configuration burden. Seven demos, multiple archive and page layouts, several header types, category filters, featured-post sources and three pagination approaches give an editorial team plenty to decide before the site feels settled. A small personal blog that only needs a single post layout might use little of that range.

The theme is also clearly shaped around blogs and magazines. Its feature list concentrates on posts, categories, authors, galleries and navigation, with no stated store, community or business-site features. That focus is useful for publishing, but it makes The Affair a less obvious choice for a project whose primary requirement sits outside editorial content.

Who it suits

The Affair fits creative publishers who want a magazine-style WordPress site with strong control over featured stories, archives and navigation. It is particularly well matched to multi-author blogs, image-conscious publications and sites that need separate treatments for the homepage, category pages and individual articles. Readers get several ways to browse, while editors get tools for arranging prominence, authorship and archive behaviour.

Choose it for its editorial structure rather than for a minimal blog setup. The combination of demos, layout choices, gallery styling, responsive menus and author support gives a content-rich publication room to develop, provided the team is prepared to make deliberate choices about which features belong in the final design.
