Gravity Forms has been the serious answer to WordPress forms for well over a decade, and the reason is boring in the best way: it treats a form as a data pipeline rather than a contact widget.

What it actually does

You build a form with conditional logic, it stores entries properly, and then add-ons route those entries wherever they need to go. Entries are first-class objects you can search, filter and export.

What works well

• Conditional logic that spans fields, pages and notifications
• Entry management with search, filtering and CSV export
• A genuinely large add-on catalogue for CRMs and payment gateways

The result is that a form stops being a dead end and becomes the front of a workflow.

Where it falls short

• The admin UI has aged relative to newer competitors
• Licensing tiers gate most of the add-ons you actually want

The verdict

Still the default choice for forms that carry real data rather than just a contact request.
