Relevanssi Premium

Relevanssi Premium replaces the limits of standard WordPress search with a configurable search layer. It is built for sites where visitors need to find more than posts and pages, including custom post types, taxonomies, custom fields, and documents.

Relevance before recency

The central improvement is a shift from date-led results towards relevance. That matters on sites with evergreen guides, product information, documentation, or a large archive where the newest matching item is not necessarily the most useful one. Relevanssi gives administrators filters and settings for deciding what search looks up and how results are prioritised.

This is a more useful starting point than treating the default search order as fixed. Content owners get control over the material included in the index and the way matching content is presented, rather than relying solely on publication dates.

Search beyond post content

Relevanssi broadens the material available to search. Its feature set includes support for custom post types, taxonomies, and custom fields, which makes it relevant to structured WordPress sites rather than only conventional blogs.

• Custom post types and taxonomies can be included in search results.
• Custom fields extend searches beyond the main post content.
• PDF and other document types can be indexed.
• Fuzzy matching helps users find results when their query contains typos.
• Live search returns results as visitors type.

The WooCommerce and Advanced Custom Fields integrations are particularly relevant for stores and content-heavy sites. A product search can cover more than a product title, while structured content managed through custom fields becomes easier for visitors to locate.

Useful feedback loops

Search statistics add a planning angle to the plugin. They provide information about user search behaviour, giving site owners evidence for improving content strategy. An editor can use that information to identify what visitors are looking for, while a store owner can see which product-related searches deserve better content or discoverability.

Live search serves a different purpose: it shortens the path between entering a query and seeing possible matches. Fuzzy matching handles spelling mistakes that would otherwise produce an empty or unhelpful result. Together, these features address both the quality of the index and the way visitors interact with it.

What to weigh

A broader search index is useful, but it also creates a larger set of material to govern. Including custom fields, taxonomies, post types, and documents means administrators need to decide which sources belong in results and which do not. Without those decisions, a search can expose matches that are technically relevant but less useful to a visitor.

The second trade-off is control itself. Relevanssi offers many settings and filters, so it suits owners prepared to shape search behaviour; it is less appealing for someone who wants a fixed search box with no editorial choices. Live results also add another layer to the search experience, while document indexing expands the scope of content that needs to be considered when maintaining the site.

Who it suits

Relevanssi Premium is a strong fit for WordPress sites with a substantial archive, structured content, WooCommerce products, or important information stored outside the main editor field. It also suits teams that want search statistics to inform their content decisions.

Small sites with a handful of ordinary pages may not need this breadth. For everyone else, the combination of relevance controls, wider indexing, live search, typo tolerance, and search statistics addresses specific weaknesses in basic WordPress search without limiting the index to one content format.
